“Good Life” is the very first (and only) single released by The Braxtons as a five-member group.
Yes. Toni was still a part of the group.
All five sisters – Toni, Traci, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar Braxton – were members of The Braxtons at this point. Together, they signed a recording contract with Arista Records in 1989.
“Good Life” was released in 1990. It was not a hit single for the girl group, hitting its peak at #79 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.
Arista was unsure how to market the group because of the drastic age differences between the oldest and youngest, and subsequently, The Braxtons were dropped from the record label. However, Toni’s voice caught the attention of Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds at a showcase for the group, and Toni was signed as the first female solo act at LaFace Records.
After Toni’s career hit the stratosphere, The Braxtons as a trio (minus pregnant Traci who was not allowed to sign a record contract) signed with Atlantic Records.
There’s no music video for “Good Life,” just incredible vocals from each one of the Braxton sisters.
